Next Designer Contest - Round 2

So....as you will see, this is not my normal packaging - but that was part of the challenge. I really like how this kit came out - we were given a theme and title, both of which are SUMMER AFTERNOON. We had to use the packaging provided and they didn't leave us a spot to put the kit name and basically told us to be creative - so I was!

Next Designer Contest

Okay - I think I am hooked!! I am loving design contests - I think it's because it gives me a specific focus - takes out some of the thought process so certain decisions are made for me and I can just go and design!

I decided to try the Next Designer Contest over at theStudio! So, for the first challenge, we were given a palette to work with and the theme was Daybreak. I opted for that "get in the caffeine while sitting on the patio overlooking my garden type feel". After all - daybreak is when the sun comes up...everybody needs that coffee first!!

Designer's Apprentice - Challenge #5

This is the last Designer's Apprentice challenge - I am actually sorry to say - I have enjoyed the contest immensely!! I would like to once again thank Sara of DSA for hosting the challenge - she was very organized and had this contest running smoothly!! Here is this week's entry - we had to make 10 elements, only 5 could use CU and 4 had to be basic, and 6 layered. There were some other details, but that's the basic challenge. (there are over 20 elements here and 2 lowercase alphabets!)

Designer's Apprentice - Challenge #4

Hi everybody!! Another challenge for the Designer Apprentice contest!! I am having fun and learning SOOOOO much! Win or lose - it was totally worth it for the experience!!

This week's challenge was:

Make 10 papers
3 solids
7 patterns
3 patterns can use CU patterns, but had to be modified
the other 4 patterns couldn't use any CU patterns - had to be my own patterns
it had to be a stand alone paper packet - so I couldn't use the same pallet I had been using so far in the contest (and I was hoping everybody would get a mega kit! LOL)

Designer's Apprentice - Challenge 3

Hello everybody! Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog!! Challenge 3 for Designer's Apprentice was to make 3, yes I said THREE, alphabets that coordinate with the Mini Kit from Challenge 1. Now, I also made matching papers for Challenge 2, so if you have been collecting all the pieces, you will have a MEGA kit by the time we're done! (I think anyway...LOL)

Here's the preview for the three of them...keep scrolling and you will see the individual previews.

Love this orange one - just a bit of shine and made from one the papers in my matching Paper Pack.

White Denim - universal and should show up nicely against your layouts!! I think you will reach for this one again and again.

My personal favorite!! This is two unicase alphabets. The blue set has the flowers attached already. The khaki set does not, but I have included two matching flowers should you want to make them flowered!!

Designer's Apprentice

Not sure how many of you know this - but I have been participating in the Designer's Apprentice contest over at DigiScrap Addicts!! I am really enjoying myself and learning a LOT!!!

Here's what has gone on so far...

Challenge 1 was to create a mini kit. I had to extract two items to use as elements. The two items I extracted were the denim pockets. If you go HERE, you can download the kit. Here's the preview:

Challenge 2 was to create a mini pack of papers, without using Commercial Use textures. Here is what I came up with:

The Challenge

This layout shows my friend Melissa - the genius template designer otherwise known as Cluster Queen Creations. Now - I don't normally scrap like this - not sure I can do it on my own but...she can and makes awesome templates because of it. So when I use her templates, I usually remove a couple (ok lots) of layers. So she challenged me to use the template without removing layers - hence the layout below.

Now, if you can read the journaling, I issued a challenge of my own. I asked this cluster queen to create a layout/template using 15 layers or less! I believe at this point I can safely say that she has declined. LOL

I decided to do the Scrappin' with Liz template challenge for December! I always love a good template - and a good challenge!!

The rules here were....

Use the template provided (obviously)
Four living things - no more no less - elements or photos - I have three butterflies and my daughter.
All patterned papers - now I am thinking the envelope paper that I used in the background is probably pushing it, but I went with it anyway.
And last - four lines of journaling.

Sometimes I see a Creative Team call and I apply for it - sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. But it always makes me go back to that particular designer's products and use them. So the way I figure it - it's pretty much WIN WIN. I get layouts done and I used products that I have purchased and may not have necessarily used yet.

What If?

I recently applied for the Digi Dare team. The application asked if you were to be chosen as a DigiDare-er, what would be your first dare. This layout is my interpretation of the dare I wrote for my application. Unfortunately, I didn't make the team, but I liked my dare so much, I decided to make the layout anyway...

Here's the dare I wrote:

What If? (A big question I know....) Do you have a person in your past that you always wonder about? Maybe an old boyfriend who broke up with you...or a friend who moved away. What about that family member you argued with and haven't spoken to since. Do you ever wonder about them? That magic question...what if they hadn't moved away? What if we hadn't broken up? What if something happened to that family member, and you couldn't talk to them again? Tell me your "what if" story. Who do you wonder about?

Dare Flair:

photos are optional
journaling is an obvious must
I'd like to see something to represent your thoughts/question...such as a thought bubble or a question mark
use the phase "what if" somewhere on the page...whether it be your title or somewhere in the journaling.

I love it when you have a "traditional" picture. And I guess this one isn't too much of a tradition, but since it's the second time I've done it, I'll probably end up doing it again and it'll BECOME a tradition...LOL!!

This photo was taken on the train at Lake Compounce. When we go to Lake Compounce, we tend to jump on the train first, which takes you to the other side of the park (it's an amusement park like a Six Flags). We jump on the Water Rafting ride, usually right when the park opens, and ride it as many times as possible as there's not usually a line at that time. Then we continue on with the rest of the day soaked! Well...it's usually hot and we usually wear clothes that dry off relatively quickly, but...

I really love how this layout came out! The title was actually a word art by Studio Bethany, but it just didn't really match the layout, so I recreated it using a font and the alphabet that came with the kit!

I totally LOVE to read. As soon as they came out, I "needed" the Barnes & Noble Nook! I did the research and this is the device I though would suit me best! Totally love it and would not want to have to be without it! Besides the fact that I can take it with me everywhere and buy a new book anywhere I am, since I recently moved I have MUCH less space than before and all the books I had can now be put on this device that is about the size of ONE book! Actually thinner! If you're on the fence - BUY IT!!

Anyway, figured my love of my nook deserved a layout....
